Solar Panel Installation FAQs

How does solar work with SCE under California's NEM 3.0?
Under the current Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0), SCE pays a lower rate for excess solar energy you send back to the grid than you pay for energy you pull from it. This means a well-sized system should cover as much of your usage as possible, and pairing solar with a battery is often the smartest way to maximize value — you store your excess solar energy instead of exporting it at a low rate.
Should I add a battery with my solar system?
Under NEM 3.0, batteries make more sense than ever. Instead of sending extra solar energy back to the grid at a low export rate, you store it in a battery and use it in the evening or during outages. We can design a solar-plus-storage system tailored to your energy usage.
How long does a solar installation take?
The physical installation is typically one to two days for a residential system. The full timeline — including design, permitting, SCE interconnection approval, and inspection — usually takes four to eight weeks from contract to activation.
Will solar work during a power outage?
A grid-tied solar system without a battery shuts off during an outage for safety reasons. With a battery backup system, your home can run on stored solar energy during an outage. We can design a system with backup capability if that is a priority for you.
Do you handle permits and SCE paperwork?
Yes. We pull all city permits, submit the SCE interconnection application, and coordinate inspections. You do not have to deal with the utility or building department — we handle it all.
